baseboards
We ordered baseboards quite a while ago. The old ones got removed during the renovating and the looked rubbish anyway. First difficulty: The floor boards are so badly seized that we needed a baseboard the extends 3 cm from the wall. That was hard to find because most common baseboards have 1,5 cm depth. Our good friend internet was helping out and we found a beautiful baseboard made of beech and painted white. Nice.
So one day we decided to install the boards. That wasn't a job we were looking for but it needed to be done and we expected it to be a days work....two days later....still one room left. Following there was a whole series of problems to deal with. First (although this should be second) we wanted to nail the baseboards in place...no way, you can nail beech even with a tiny nail without predrilling a hole. And even with doing so, problem number two, the floor is beech, too. Solution: Screws. So screwing the baseboards in place takes much longer then just put a nail through.
Problem number three: The house is about a hundred years old, it is a beautifull architecture but gives you the problem that wether the floor nor the walls are straight. And there is not one single 45 degree angle anywhere! So every corner joint of the baseboards was a very tricky affair and next to the mitre saw we used a discsander and even carving knives...
