The Jay #42
Welcome to the build thread of one of my latest guitars. This is from a few months ago and I have finished some other projects since then but more on that later.
The Jay #42 is build from Alpine spruce and Euro Walnut. The client asked me to keep the guitar very basic in terms of ornamentation. Therefore the beautiful woods and shapes can speak for themselves. Something I always enjoy a lot. The simplicity only works if the craftsmanship is clean and the shapes and proportions work well together I think. And I just love the more austere look. Not that I don´t enjoy going a little further with ornametation, I like that, too. And in fact I am working on two very highly decorated guitars at the moment. I guess I just like it all. All the different facettes of what a guitar can be.
The guitar really has three different philosophies in terms of the build. It is build in the Spanish tradition of classical guitar making as well as having some elements of traditional Martin inspired guitarmaking. Like the bracing and the thickness of the plates. As well as having a clearly modern steelstring look and things like the wide bridge saddle or the back bracing. All the different approaches that influenced me so far are all found in this one guitar.
