The Magpie #43 "Snow in Africa"
This Magpie is guitar No. 43 to leave my shop. A baritone with a 685 mm scale length but tuned only, well for a baritone that is, two full notes lower than standard. For this tuning I use separate strings that I get from Elixier. A 0.59 for the base to 0.15 for the treble.
The 14 fret neck to body joint with the longer scale pushes the bridge further down and I kind of like that aesthetically with the Magpie body. It made me think that I should build it as a regular guitar with a 13 fret neck joint some day.
Soundwise I can´t say much...I´m not one to judge a baritone guitar. They are low. And very fun to play. Everything sounds soft and mellow which is really cool. Even with a capo on the 4th fret, which brings you into standard pitch, it is a totally different animal. Very melodic and ...yes, low, and soft and deep.
Right now I am putting finish on guitar No. 49 among other things and I am hoping to finish it till the end of this year. But there is something else to work on. Something exciting....
