Rosette No.2

Here are some pictures of the making of yet another rosette. This one is made with dyed black maple veneer and pear wood. I like the look of the pear because it is so plain you can barely make out any grain structure. This allows the mosaic pattern to really come out. The outer rings are also black veneer and pear wood.
I am planing to use this rosette on a classical inspired new steelstring model. It will have a german spruce top and flamed maple back and sides. A lot of old instruments like the viola d'amore and some Renaissance guitars had their carved rosettes made of pear wood so this is kind of a modern approach to it.
